Living Heritage

Our Story & Mission
Vergers du Monde Press grew out of Vergers du Monde, a non-profit organization founded on a vital premise: understanding traditional farming means understanding human cultures and their deep ties to the earth. What began as an initiative to foster direct exchanges between farmers across different territories, sharing age-old practices, ecological observations, and seeds, has revealed an urgent need.
We live in an era of silent, profound transformations: soil degradation, shifting climates, and the fragile state of biodiversity. In this context of ecological crisis, time-tested peasant wisdom, indigenous practices, and traditional ecological knowledge are far too precious to lose. They hold key responses to building resilient, decentralized agricultural systems for tomorrow.
To protect and honor this living heritage, we evolved into a collaborative publishing house. We work alongside local knowledge keepers, researchers, elders, and farming communities to co-create books, technical guides, and field notes that document and pass down this essential ecological intelligence to future generations.
Mindful Production
In harmony with our ecological commitments, we apply the same care to book production as we do to preserving knowledge. We prioritize working with local printers whenever possible to minimize our carbon footprint and support regional craftspeople. For our practical guides and technical manuals, we partner with Lulu to print on demand, ensuring zero waste, no unsold overstock, and global access without unnecessary transportation.

Learning how people protect seeds across different places made me more patient and intentional in my own garden. The practical steps were easy to follow, but what stayed with me most was the idea that saving seeds is also about respect, continuity and caring for food beyond one reason.
